Counselling Therapy for
Police & Emergency Services

Do you work for a Police or Emergency Service?

Is work affecting your capacity to focus on your wellbeing?

Affecting your relationship with your partner, family, friends, or your children?

I grew up with a family member in the police service, so I was exposed at a young age to hearing about life as a police officer; violence, suicide, traffic accidents, all of it freely discussed at the family dinner table. I grew up knowing that my family member was in danger at work, spat at and worse, as they went about their working day or night, doing their best to protect people from harm.

Officers who have been in the role for many years, tell me they don't have time to do the job the way they used to, or in the way they would like to.

Policing & emergency work is highly stressful. Compassion fatigue sets in and 'dark humour' becomes the only way to survive the work and the human tragedy that you witness. Most people don't see what you see, they don't experience life in the way that you do. This trauma builds up over time and spills over, into your personal life. It is important to have long term mental health supports in place if you want to maintain a career in this line of work, and limit the impact on your health, wellbeing, and relationships.
